Bio

Jakub Ryszard Koncewicz – born 1997 in Bydgoszcz, Poland. In 2017 he finished Leon Wyczółkowski Art High School with specialization in graphic design. Right after High School he joined the commercial house “Blackfish Studio & Film” as a graphic designer, where he worked remotely for the next two years.

After an unsuccessful attempt to enroll in Graphic Design in the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, he spent a year working as a graphic designer and developing his painting skills.

In 2018 Koncewicz started studying painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. After the two years course in the Basics of Painting and Drawing studio he joined the Henryk Cześnik’s atelier. During his studies he exhibited in many individual and group exhibitions. He was organizing projects and was invited to run workshops. Some of his works were purchased for private collections in Warsaw and New York. For three years Koncewicz was an art resident in Halo Kultura where he was granted a studio space. On last year of his studies he joined Bochinski Foundation where he still works as a graphic designer and brand manager.
In 2023 he graduated with distinction by organizing an exhibition “Archetype Archaeology”.

In 2024 Koncewicz moved with his partner and his cat to Berlin.

Artist statement

In my work I mainly focus on philosophical topics, trying to explore spaces of particular kind of unease. Using a language of signs, shapes and carefully found forms I try to reach the most fundamental aspects of human existence, looking for things that are hard to capture with words. In my recent exhibition “Archetype Archaeology” I proposed the name “ pre-images searching” for a process of looking for Signs that indicate something familiar but hard to define. I believe that through that process I create my own artistic language which I wish to continue and develop. Through that language I hope to speak about the most universal of things.
